Day 4

For the homework today I watched the two video about genetic algorithms and, to be honest, I think they are way too verbose. Apart from that, I think the concept of genetic algorithms is pretty interesting and it’s amazing how much inspiration people can draw from the nature, even for the industry that is generally considered most unnatural –– robotics. One thing I noticed was the limitation of the genetic algorithms, that it may not always be possible to define a function to calculate the “fitness” of a chunk of data. Because of this, even though it is better than brute forcing, sometimes it is only viable to resort to brute force. One example of that would be attempting to crack the password of an account. In that case, the fitness of a certain string is impossible to be calculated because we don’t know the target string and, therefore, not able to compute the fitness.
